Glamis begins new gold mining project

Wednesday, 25th August 2004 (2841 views)

Canada based Glamis Gold has announced it has begun mining the first of a selection of open pits at its new Millennium Project.

The new project is situated south of the Marigold Mine, where final gold processing will take place.

Marigold's general manager, Dave Cook, told Elko Daily Free Press: "We've actually started mining the most easterly pit, Target 1. We're finalising things to get all the construction going."

In addition, mining is also taking place in another zone at Marigold as part of the project, with 160,000 tonnes being mined per day, according to Mr Cook.

However, although gold production was recently reported to be increasing, the actual expansion is around two months behind.
