Peru's May gold output

Friday, 9th July 2004 (3089 views)

Peru's gold output fell by 63 per cent in May, compared with the same month last year, to 13,340 kilograms.

The Peruvian Energy and Mines Ministry claimed that the decline was due mainly to weaker production at Barrick Gold Corp's Pierina mine and a fall in production at Minera Yanacocha

Barrick Gold Inc has started mining lower grade ore at Pierina, while the dip in production at Yanacocha is caused by a reduction in mineral treated.

Zinc and silver production in the country also dipped over the month, while Copper production increased slightly.
