Friday, 9th July 2004 (4528 views) Peru's gold output fell by 63 per cent in May, compared with the same month last year, to 13,340 kilograms.<BR/><BR/>The Peruvian Energy and Mines Ministry claimed that the decline was due mainly to weaker production at Barrick Gold Corp's Pierina mine and a fall in production at Minera Yanacocha<BR/><BR/>Barrick Gold Inc has started mining lower grade ore at Pierina, while the dip in production at Yanacocha is caused by a reduction in mineral treated.<BR/><BR/>Zinc and silver production in the country also dipped over the month, while Copper production increased slightly.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=6022404"/>
