Study continues for Falklands' goldWednesday, 12th May 2004 (2614 views) A survey into gold reserves in the Falklands is progressing well with samples of the precious metal already having been found.The study is being completed by Fugro Airbone Surveys for Falklands Minerals Limited, a newly formed company, according to Merco Press. Work was prompted by the fact that the islands were once part of South Africa where huge amounts of gold are mined. Aircraft is surveying 14,000 sq km of land with three key areas being particularly investigated. Once the results have been analysed the minerals company will begin drilling in the areas for the precious metal. The programme is reportedly thought to cost about $1.5 million.
