An international gold conference to be held next month will feature former Soviet Union President Mikhail Gorbachev.

Mr Gorbachev will speak to participants at the conference about corporate government, private investment, sustainable development, responsible economic policy and mining in Peru.

Speaking on May 7, world leaders in mining will be addressed by the former president from companies such as Newmont Mining Corp, Barrick Gold Corp and AngloGold, according to Reuters.

In addition a range of other industry executives will take part in the event on the precious metal.

The conference will be held in Lima from May 4-7 and is hosted by the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy.
