Exports increase reported in South Africa

Friday, 23rd April 2004 (3008 views)

South Africa saw a 10 per cent growth in mineral exports last year, helped by sales of gold.

According to the department of minerals and energy $11.25 billion was made on exports, according to Bloomberg.

37.7 per cent of export earnings came from gold sales, whilst total production value increased by 18 per cent to $15.33 billion.

The ministry had originally predicted in February that exports had grown to $11.4 billion in 2003.

South Africa is the world's biggest producer of precious metals.
