India exports up 31 per cent

Latest data shows that jewellery and gem exports from India increased by 31 per cent in 2003-2004.

Figures from the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) revealed Indian exports reached $11.9 billion in 2003 to 2004, according to India Infoline.

White gold was a strong factor in the exports with white gold jewellery contributing 68 per cent towards the total exports.

According to chairman Sanjay Kothari, the council is aiming for exports for the fiscal year ending March 31 2005 to reach $13.5 billion.
