UK police stop attempted gold robbery

Tuesday, 30th March 2004 (3319 views)

An attempted gold bullion robbery was stopped this week by police in London.

Members of an armed gang had to be stopped with stun guns after thieves had loaded over 12 kilos of gold into a stolen car worth £7 million.

The robbery took place at a factory in Enfield owned by Johnson Matthey, a world supplier of precious metals, according to the Evening Standard.

All the stolen gold was returned safely after the raid which had seen one gang member holding a gun to the head of a warehouseman and threatening to kill him.

Police burst in on the robbery as the men were unloading the gold from a security vehicle.
