Russia's gold production risesMonday, 2nd February 2004 (3043 views) Russia's gold production, including mined, secondary and by-product metal, went up 3.5 per cent in 2003.A source at the Russian Gold-Miners Union told Itar-Tass that production rose to 177,000 kilograms last year. Gold mining in 2003 grew by 0.8 per cent in comparison with 2002, the Prime-Tass economic news agency said. The Krasnoyarsk Territory tops the list of gold-producing regions with 30,000 kilograms. The Magadan Region comes second with 26,300 kilograms of extracted gold, and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) takes the third place with 20,300 kilograms of gold. In December 2003, the volume of gold mined by the Russian Federation enterprises rose by 9,700 kilograms (21.4 per cent) in comparison with the same period of 2002.
